National Service Scheme (NSS), was launched in Gandhiji's Birth Centenary Year on September 24, 1969 with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service. Today, NSS has more than 3.2 million student volunteers on its roll spread over 298 Universities and 42 (+2) Senior Secondary Councils and Directorate of Vocational Education all over the country.
The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are:
Understand the community in which they work, understand themselves in relation to their community, identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving, develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility, utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems, develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities gain skills in mobilizing community participation, acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes, develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and practice national integration and social harmony.

NSS unit is registered in Sardar Patel University since September 2013

Student registration is carried out in the month of July of every academic year

One student representative is selected from the registered student.

The NSS unit of ISTAR organized Seven days special NSS camp at Gana Village located at 5km distance from Vallabh Vidyanagar.

Dr. P. M. Udani, Director, ISTAR was the president for the inauguration function and Mrs. Manishaben Bharambhatt, Mamlatdar, Anand (Rural) was the chief guest of the function.

Dr. P. M. Udani, during the inaugural speech inspired the NSS volunteers and set the goal for the students by providing interesting statistics regarding NSS activities carried out throughout the country and discussed about the scope for NSS volunteers. He informed that there are 350 universities of India which carry out NSS activities. There are 32lacs NSS volunteers who are registered from more than 18000 colleges and 20,000 schools across the India. Out of these very few (about 200 volunteers) get opportunity for participation in republic day parade and G -20 summit.

Mrs. Manishaben appreciated the activities planned. She visited the Mega Medical camp and interacted with doctors and official of Lions club. She was impressed with the medical camp and encouraged the students of the college.
