Title	One Day Workshop On Disaster Management Support using Space Technology & Applications To Retain Earth -A Study of Gujarat State (DMS - STARE - SGS)

Description	Funded by ISRO-Disaster Management Support (DMS) - Capacity Building (CB) Program For this one-day workshop Dr. Krunal Suthar, Head and Assistant Professor of the P.G. Department of Geoinformatics - ISTAR, served as the Principal Investigator, and Dr. Hiren Soni, Head and Assistant Professor of the P.G. Department of Environmental Science-ISTAR, served as the Co-Principal Investigator under ISRO's Disaster Management Support (DMS) Programme of the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (ISRO). ISTAR received a grant of Rs. 2,47,000 for organizing the one day “workshop On Disaster Management Support using Space Technology & Applications To Retain Earth -A Study of Gujarat State (DMS - STARE - SGS)”, held on 05th May 2023. Dr. Shashikant Sharma, the Group Director of VEDAS Group, ISRO, was the chief guest of this function. Dr. Mahendrasinh Raj, the I/C Principal of ISTAR, inaugurated the function. In addition to the chief guest, eminent speakers from different disciplines such as Er. Rajendra Shah, Executive Project Manager of Sardar Sarovar Nigam, Dr. Sandip Pandey, Associate Professor of GIDM, Dr. Vyas Pandey, former Emirates Scientist of ICAR, Dr. Krunal Suthar, Head & Assistant professor and Ms. Chancy Shah, a GIS Analyst from Dronav industry delivered speeches on Disaster Management using Space Technology. The objective of this workshop was to raise awareness and understanding of the potential applications of Space-based Technology for disaster management support, to explore and utilize Space Technology for hazard, vulnerability, and risk assessment, to visualize hazard and risk information in the context of Gujarat, and to discuss the future of DSM using Space-based Technology. Participants from various states of India and different government agencies, industries, academic institutions, research scholars, and PG students participated in this workshop. They gained knowledge about understanding the concept of Disaster Risk Management in the context of Gujarat State, enhancing the capacity of participants to utilize space technology and its data for disaster risk reduction and management, and the role of RS/GIS in the development of real-time decision support systems.
